Nicholas Terwilliger is a musician turned entertainment attorney specializing in intellectual property law. He began his career 30 years ago studying music in various genres including jazz, rock and classical. Nicholas focused his career on the business side of music and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Music Industry Studies at California State University, Northridge where he learned the intricacies of music business and the importance of intellectual property rights.

While studying in Los Angeles, Nicholas toured the world with various musical groups and worked in Southern California as a musician, band manager, sound engineer and theatre director. As a working musician, Nicholas discovered that assistance was often needed in understanding an individual’s intellectual property rights and how it affects their career. Nicholas decided to pursue a law degree to help musicians and artists. He attended the Thomas Jefferson School of Law (TJSL) specializing in intellectual property law. While studying at TJSL, Nicholas worked at the I.P. clinic helping low-income clients secure their copyright and trademark protections.

As a licensed attorney, Nicholas has helped secure numerous copyrights and trademarks. Nicholas has also had the pleasure of expanding his practice to include estate planning and business law. He helps small and large businesses alike in everything from formation to dissolution.

Nicholas’ personal mission continues to be assisting musicians and artists in their careers by helping them build and manage their brand. His specialties are drafting and reviewing agreements, securing copyrights and trademarks, negotiating licensing and distribution agreements, music clearance, business formations, business maintenance and estate planning.

Outside of his work, Nicholas serves on the Board of Directors for the California Jazz Foundation, writes and produces music, enjoys fishing, walking his dog Freddie and spending time with his family.
